A place like no other

You may have seen resorts before, but nothing can prepare you for the luxury, privacy and attention to detail of the Soneva Fushi Kunfunadhoo Island reserves.

The Jungle reserve at Soneva Fushi covers a footprint of 700 square metres. It begins with a beachfront villa furnished in the Soneva signature Robinson Crusoe ambience and a luxurious open-air private bathroom looking out on a vast walled water garden. The bathroom has two showers, one covered and the other in the open.

An elevated walkway leads from the villa to a living room pavilion with luxurious day beds and a second bathroom offering a steam-room and blitz shower plus a rain-shower, and a bathtub set amongst a cluster of screw pines. The living room has a dining area and a personal entertainment system, in addition to the system in the main villa. The area can be opened on three sides so as to enjoy the tropical breeze. There is also a private wine chiller.

Hideout in the trees
The walkway then elevates to 2.5 metres above the ground as it reaches the tree house - the first of its kind in the Maldives - furnished with rustic bunk beds and a day bed. The tree house also has its own toilet, plus a terrace looking out through the treetops to the lagoon. This wonderful little hideout is ideal for children, or those who like a little fantasy in their adult life.

The ultimate fun feature is a water slide that plunges from the tree house to the 150 square metre private pool wrapping around the villa in a half-moon free-form shape.

The Jungle Reserve at Soneva Fushi also offers an open-air spa champa with two massage beds, plus a separate air-conditioned gym.

Soneva Fushi Resort is located on the private island of Kunfunadhoo, one of the few islands that is rich with vegetation and where sandy bicycle pathways meander beneath a jungle-like canopy. The island measures almost one and a half kilometres by half a kilometre and is located in the North Baa Atoll - a 25-minute exhilarating seaplane trip from the International Airport of Male.

Private Reserve
The Private Reserve at Soneva Gili may be likened in calibre to a presidential suite, but there the comparison stops, as this is a place like no other. It is made up of five separate buildings, which house two master bedrooms plus accommodation for guests. A private spa features a sauna and steam room as well as a chill shower and massage pavilion, and an air-conditioned gym. A Mr & Mrs Friday are on call at all times - with their own private quarters. For the children there is a waterslide into the lagoon.

The Private Reserve covers an area of one thousand four hundred square metres, making it incomparable in both size and style to any other resort. The complex also includes a kitchen and wine cellar, concealed entertainment centre and large living area. And all this is created in the ecologically friendly rustic chic style of Soneva.

Arrival is from across the azure lagoon. Disembark into a large foyer with daybeds and seating arrangements. Ahead lies the central entertaining pavilion. To both sides, along water bridges, are vast master bedrooms with breathtaking sea views that can be enjoyed from the centrally positioned king-size beds. Each bedroom features a bathroom with double vanities atop granite stands and a glass-enclosed circular shower accessed by a walkway through a private water garden.

From the foyer, step out to a huge water-level sun deck. Upstairs is an enormous roof deck with seating and lounges, plus a dining area that can seat a dozen guests - an exhilarating spot from which to survey the endless horizons.
